ATTENTION HOME OWNERS!

At Altheus Infrared, our building envelope surveys provide a means of evaluating the insulation, air sealing and overall tightness of your home.  We don't just provide an opinion as to what we think might be present (or absent) within your walls, we show you what is happening!

Our reports provide the exact location of that missing insulation right down to the stud bay.  Take a look at the two samples below... both show insulation problems - the black & white image showing an outside wall and the color image showing an interior ceiling.  Both show missing insulation.  The older home in the black & white photo (note the plaster and lath... horizontal lines between the vertical studs) appears to have a blown-in insulation that has settled.  While the new home (shown below in color) has insulation that was simply not installed... then hidden behind knee walls.

Our cameras work equally well to show the source of drafts.  The photo at the bottom of this page shows the unimstakable signature of a typical draft.

With the cost of heating homes in the Northeast and across the country at an all time high, it pays to know where every heating dollar is going... out a window, around a door, through an uninsulated wall or through voids or gaps in the insulation you know you have.   Let us provide the data you need to have the insulation repaired correctly.

The ceiling above the door appears to be missing insulation - located behind the 2nd floor kneewall, it was not apparent by any means other than infrared imaging.
Stud bays above and to right of window appear to be missing or have settled insulation

No matter if you have a two hundred year old antique home or a brand new contemporary home, unless you've utilized thermal imaging, the performance of the insulation within your walls is an unknown.  No other technology can show the studs in your walls, the presence of insulation, the lack of insulation, the track a water leak is taking, the performance of that expensive gas filled window (again, only thermal imaging can show you if the gas is even present) and so many other aspects of your home's building envelope.

Do you have a new home under construction... consider having the insulation checked during installation - timing is everything for this survey (not only coordinating with the builder, but also ensuring the weather cooperates); however, finding and fixing air infiltration points before the sheetrock is applied will save you and the builder money and headaches down the line, not to mention improving comfort.

Air Infiltration at Baseboard
Black "whispy" lines are the effect of cold air infiltration from cracks or gaps around the doors.
